Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) ha dipinto solo 143 opere di piccole dimensioni, nonostante ciò alcuni dei suoi quadri sono diventati delle icone dellarte del ventesimo secolo. Il culto della personalità di Frida ha in realtà quasi oscurato la conoscenza reale della sua pittura: due terzi delle opere sono autoritratti e le ragioni di questo manifesto narcisismo stanno nella sua biografia, nel paese e nellepoca nella quale ha vissuto, nel suo carattere decisamente eccentrico. Negli anni Settanta il suo personaggio, già notissimo in Messico, viene scoperto in tutto il mondo e la sua figura diventa unicona globale, mettendo quasi in ombra la sua opera. Questa monografia riporta alle radici della sua pittura e analizza i capolavori riprodotti nelle dimensioni reali e nei dettagli: unesperienza diretta e immediata della qualità e bellezza della sua arte, della materia pittorica e della ricchezza dei dettagli.
